Scientific Publications has prepared an updated list of journals excluded from the Scopus database in June 2024. You can read the current list in our monthly review.

Why are journals excluded from the Scopus database?
Scopus is one of the leading scientometric databases in the world. The policy of this service is aimed at maintaining a high level of quality and significance of all published materials. Each journal included in Scopus undergoes a rigorous review by an independent advisory board to meet high standards. The journals are evaluated according to such criteria as scientific significance of publications, transparency of peer review, regularity of issues, as well as quality and relevance of scientific content.
Every month the international advisory board excludes from the Scopus database publications that no longer meet the Scopus standards.
The main reasons for the termination of indexing of journals in the Scopus database:
- articles of low quality and insufficient scientific relevance
- suspicious editorial policy
- excessive self-citations
- consistently low influence metrics
- Violation of ethical standards.

The most common reason for the exclusion of journals from the Scopus platform is the low quality of published materials detected by the Radar system. Publication Concerns" (problems related to the publication process) is a less common reason for the termination of indexing for journals. This may include failure of articles to meet high academic standards, non-transparent editorial policies, and signs of "predatory" journals.
Why is it important to check whether a scientific journal is indexed in Scopus before submission?
Publishing in Scopus is a complex and time-consuming process that requires considerable time and money, as reputable journals often charge high publication fees. Before submitting your materials, you need to make sure that the journal is indeed indexed in Scopus.
Checking the indexing of a scientific journal in Scopus before submitting an article to the editorial office is important for several reasons:
- avoiding "predatory" publications: a once high-quality journal may lose its reputation and be removed from the database due to ethical violations
- reputation:journals removed from the Scopus database are more likely to lose indexing due to publication of low-quality articles. The placement of research in such publications negatively affects the authority of a scientist in the scientific space
- low scientometric indicators: excluded journals are no longer visible to the broad academic community. Articles published in such journals do not receive many citations.
